Like most cities in the United States, our current model of living produces a tremendous carbon impact.
Sustainability is about promoting a culture of sustainable living. This includes reducing the need to travel by creating safe, equitable places to live and work. Promoting alternative transportation methods like walking, biking, and ebikes. Preserving our open spaces. Supporting locally made products and local farming. Reducing waste and promoting reuse and recycling.
Sustainability is not just a list of things that need to get done, it is a way of thinking. It should be incorporated into the fabric of our decision making.
I support connecting bike access down Ygnacio Valley Road
I support connecting our sidewalk systems with county and unincorporated areas
I support looking at a long term plan that creates neighborhood hubs with walkable access
The only way to truly decrease our carbon footprint and reduce traffic congestion is to create jobs and offer housing that allow residents to live, work and shop in their community. This is the sustainable model for the future. This requires thoughtful planning and working closely with the city, county, developers, business district and the community.
On a personal note we have installed solar panels on our house, drip for our landscaping, switched to an electric water heater, heat pump HVAC and electric car.
My wife Jennifer and I are long time supporters and contributors to Sustainable Contra Costa.
I have spent the last 23 years practicing medicine. My experience in the ER is not just about medicine, it is about empathy, listening, digesting large quantities of information in a relatively short period of time and solving problems.
